Not Just a Bruise, but a Wound on Society
Video Transcribed: How is child abuse defined in the state of Oklahoma? Hi, I’m Oklahoma attorney Brian Glass.
Oklahoma defines child abuse as the willful or malicious harm or threatened harm or failure to protect from harm or the threatened harm to the health, safety, or welfare of a child under the age of 18 by a person responsible for the child. That would be either their parent, their guardian or the custodian of the minor child. And of course, whenever you see child abuse, you will recognize it.
Still, it is explicitly defined as not only physical harm but also the threat of harm, the threat of action you could threaten to hit the child with any number of objects including your hand, that could be a form of child abuse. Again, it is measured on a case-by-case basis, and it depends on the reporting agency and what is being reported.
