Navigating the Summons Process in Choctaw Courts
Who can be summoned by the Choctaw Nation Tribal Courts? Hi, I’m Oklahoma Law Attorney Brian Glass, and today we’re talking about being summoned into the Choctaw Nation Tribal Courts. The simple answer is anyone the Tribal Courts may have subject matter jurisdiction over. These people would include, of course, anyone who is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation. Choctaw Nation also hears cases from other tribal members in Muscogee Creek. Chickasha Nation may also be called into Choctaw Courts, depending on the summons’ nature.
Types of Cases Heard in Choctaw Tribal Courts
Whether it be a criminal complaint, which would be, again, for any member of the Choctaw Nation, or if any offense happened on Choctaw Tribal land. Another way someone may be summoned to the Choctaw Tribal Court is through a civil proceeding involving a divorce, paternity action, or child court, by another member of the Choctaw Tribe. If you are summoned to Choctaw Tribal Court, you will need to find an attorney who has been accepted into the Choctaw Tribal Court system by their bar.
