IDAP Can Save the Day!
Video Transcribed: Will you lose your license automatically after being charged with a DUI in the state of Oklahoma?
Hi, I’m Oklahoma Attorney Brian Glass and the short answer to this question is yes. Upon a charge of DUI in the state of Oklahoma, the Department of Public Safety will automatically suspend your driver’s license. But there is a way to keep your driver’s license.
Within 15 days, you need to file a petition with the Department of Public Safety to enroll in the IDAP program. The IDAP program is the Impaired Drivers Accountability Program. You’ll recognize this by the devices put on cars. It’ll be a breathalyzer, more than likely, attached to the starting mechanism of your car. Your car will not start unless you can pass a breathalyzer.
Each month, you will have to pay a fee to maintain and operate the system, and these reports will be then delivered to the Department of Public Safety. This will allow you to keep your license during the pending court proceedings that you will be facing after the charge of DUI.
