From Partners to Co-Parents
Video Transcribed: Are counseling classes required for divorce in the state of Oklahoma? Hi, I’m Oklahoma attorney, Brian Glass.
One of the requirements for individuals getting divorced, particularly ones with children, is to take a parenting course to go over the effects or the potential effects of divorce on minor children. These classes will go over such topics as the short and long-term effects of divorce on not only the individuals getting divorced but their children. They’ll also go over the possibility of reconciliation. Maybe you don’t need a divorce. Perhaps you were just going through a rough patch. They’ll go over those options with you.
There are also the effects of family violence on any member of the family, especially the minor child. They’ll also go over the potential emotional and physical implications, or excuse me, ramifications on the minor child that is going through the divorce. These courses are set up so that many of them you can take online. They cost a minimum of $10, and a maximum of $60 per statute. And they can also look differently, given the county where they get divorced. Some counties have different rules, and again, it’s going to be on a county-by-county, case-by-case basis.
